Oslob is a municipality of the Province of Cebu, Central Visayas), located in around 4 hours by bus from Cebu City. It is famous for the Shark Whales watching. Besides that, people also spend some time visiting the Tumalog Waterfall after the Shark Whale Watching, then the visit is done here. However, in this small municipality, there are more than only Shark Whales and Tumalog Waterfall to stay a bit longer for.
Oslob is not as big or famous as Cebu City, Bohol or Dalaquete, somehow, this small municipality will surprise you if you try to discover it by walking around.
Heritage Park of Municipality
All the heritages in Oslob are very close, you just need to head to the centre, all the beautiful Spanish colonised historical sites are all around you, satisfying your curiosity about the city.
1. Immaculate Conception Parish Church
The Philippines is a catholic country and each city has its own representative Church. Immaculate Conception Parish Church is made by white coral stones. The three-floored building next to it is the bell tower. The coral stones were collected from the coast alongside the church, and egg white was used as the bonding adhesive material for the building among stones. It can be easily told, that Filipinos devoted so much for the construction of this church.
2. Spanish Cuartel
There is an unfinished fence of wall shape which has the same construction material of coral stones near the church. According to the introduction, it should be built as a military camp, but undone. This slowly weathering old fence reminds people of the hegemony of Spanish Emperor in the former time, fading in the world history nowadays.
3. Baluarte
This Watchtower was built in 1778, a place where offered an outpost for the military to survey the invasion of enemies. It might lose its function now, you still can tell the spectacular character by how it looks now.
Baywalk
Blue sky and sea sights with the historical sites is the best match for enjoying the splendid former time in a city. The heritage park in Oslob is just next to the bay. Walking here is like reading a nice book at the beach, such a joy, isn’t it?
Traditional Houses
The interesting park about Oslob is there is a main road here for transportation, and many concrete lodges built for tourists and traditional houses are alongside the road. Those transitional houses remind people of the Chinese character “home”, house on the top with livestock under the house.
Cemetery visit
In Catholic religion, death leading the dead into the arm of Lord, thus, the cemeteries are not as scary of the oriental religions. There are not special signs of dividing cemetery and the residential area. When you pass through the small gate into it as if you are standing another residencial area of those past lives, like a small park to connect the dead and the living.
Friendly people
Not just the heat will welcome you in Oslob, the local people here are also very hospitable. Whenever you go, there are always people try to provide help or to suggest you what to do or where to go when you need, trying to tell you some tips in order not to make you being cheated here. The school boys and girls here are also another part of beauty when you visiting here, their friendly laughs and greetings will just make you sense the warmth and sweetness about this place.
Seeing people coming and leaving here in a rush by seeing just the Shark Whales and Waterfall is just a shame. It will be worthy to modify your schedule, spending a day on this city, enjoying this cute municipality with culture and friendly people.
